The Founder's Journey
Greenmor Mail was built because I kept running into the same problems myself — either paying way too much for Google Workspace when all I needed was email, or dealing with unreliable spam filters and poor deliverability from cheaper providers. Small businesses, freelancers, and growing teams often face the same struggle: they need professional, domain-based email that works reliably, without the bloat or the high price tag. Having personally faced these frustrations while running multiple businesses, I decided to create a simple, clean solution that delivers what matters — email, calendar, and notes — at a fair cost, with enterprise-grade deliverability built in.
Before building Greenmor Mail, I validated the idea by talking to freelancers, small business owners, and agency folks who were either overpaying for Google Workspace or frustrated with cheaper hosts like GoDaddy. In total, I spoke to around 25–30 people across different industries — most of them already running businesses and actively paying for email. I used casual interviews, feedback calls, and even quick surveys to understand how much email mattered to them versus the add-ons bundled with big providers. The biggest surprise was how many people believed they needed Google Workspace to access tools like Docs or Sheets — when in reality, a free Gmail login works just fine with a custom email. Another insight was that spam and deliverability were top pain points even for small setups, not just large teams — which pushed me to prioritize Amazon SES integration and strong spam filtering right from the start.
We built Greenmor Mail internally with a small team of three. From day one, the goal wasn’t just to make email hosting cheaper, but to strip away the fluff and make it feel seamless for users without compromising email delivery. The biggest technical challenge wasn’t the server setup itself, but stitching together multiple moving parts — deliverability, spam filtering, and domain authentication — without overwhelming the user. In short, making complex integrations disappear into a clean, no-fuss experience.
For Greenmor Mail, the channels that work best are founder-led storytelling on LinkedIn and X and direct conversations with small business owners and freelancers. Since we’re solving a very specific pain point (email without the bloat or high costs), organic word of mouth has also played a big role. One growth hack that’s been surprisingly effective is reframing the problem: instead of just “cheap email,” we highlight how people can still use Google tools (Docs, Sheets, Calendar) without paying for Workspace. That simple shift gets immediate attention because it challenges a common misconception.
